Good Hope Orphan Care: Update January 2026

I’m delighted to forward to you and all the wonderful parishioners of St Pauls, the photos of the January 2026 school stationery.

With the March 25 to January 26 donations, totalling $750, plus a contribution of my own, I was able to purchase for each of 20 children:

7 x 192 page exercise books bond @ $2.80 each $392

7 x 96 page exercise books bond @ $1.30 each $182

10 x 72 page quad (maths) newsprint @ $0.65 each $130

2 blue pens @ $0.55 each $22

2 pencils @ $0.25 each $10

1 eraser @ $0.50 each $10

1 sharpener @ $0.36 each $7.20

1 ruler @ $0.15 each $3

4 rolls x 3 mts brown paper and @ $0.40 each $32

plastic for covering books @ $0.45 each $36

1 roll cellotape @ $0.25 each $5

Total $829.20

I was horrified to learn that the schools expect each child to provide 20 x 72 page books for each subject – 7 to 8 subjects at Grade 7; for the year.

They also expect each child to provide 2 reams of bond paper, 3 of each red, black and blue biro pens, 3 pencils and 3 black markers.

Misgivings there may be some kind of nonsense going on!

However, the children were over the moon as will be read in their thank you letters. These will follow in another email as my server is not happy with the size of the attachment!
